Changes to Medicare Supplement Cost Sharing Amounts for 2017

In late December 2016, a letter will be sent to all Medicare Supplement plan subscribers informing them of the Medicare cost-sharing changes required by the federal government, effective January 1, 2017. The mailing will include information about Blue Shield’s free ID-theft protection services.

Members will also receive additional information, depending on their plan type:

  • Plan K members will receive the annual change to the calendar-year maximum copayment as part of their amendment to their EOC.
  • High deductible Plan F members will receive the annual change to the calendar-year deductible as part of their amendment to their EOC.

Medicare Supplement plan Summary of Benefits (SOB) updated

The Medicare Supplement plan SOB has been updated to reflect the January 1, 2017 cost-sharing amounts.

Any Medicare Supplement plan pre-sale kits ordered after December 20, 2016 will include the new SOB.
